ASUP threatens to go on strike
ASUP have decided to begin an indefinite strike from the 12th of december, the National President of ASUP, Usman Dutse said that the reason for the decided indefinite strike is because of the failure of the Federal Government to meet the demands of the polytechnic lecturers.
The union on 2nd October, issued a 21 day ultimatum to the government before it extended it to November but did not eventually go on the supposed strike.
He said;
“Government has failed to implement and fulfill agreements it reached with the union as contained in the memorandum of understanding signed,”
the union have decided to make the proposed strike to be indefinite after having a meeting at Yaba College of education last week.
they hope the strike would make government look into improving the condition of service and the payment of additional allowances government owed polytechnic lecturers and also fulfill the agreement they had on November 2017, when the Federal government agreed to implement the recommendations of the 2014 NEEDS assessment after the strike was suspended. he went on to discuss about some other problems the polytechnic lecturers are facing like the state governors not paying them for months and lack of subventions to carryout infrastructural development that would be upto standard.
the union follows the likes of ASUU which strike have clocked up to a month and still counting.
